Turkey, potential medical tourism mecca in Europe

With most of the European population ageing and with the decreasing hours spent at work by health workers in these countries, more and more people need medical attention. Aside from these two major problems, healthcare costs are rapidly increasing hence the prospect of medical tourism becoming more and more acceptable to many Europeans. Although Asia offers a number of medical services to medical tourists, the flight duration can be a deal breaker for many Europeans that is why the Turkish government is investing on medical tourism. With 20 million visitors from Europe, Turkey definitely is a good destination not only to see heritage sites but also a better choice for those coming from Europe because of its proximity.
The quality and scope of healthcare services in Turkey are at par with international standards and of course cost a lot less. However, medical tourism in Turkey is not yet that well-developed that only the Turkish coming from abroad go back to the country to avail of affordable treatments. This is not to say that the nation does not have the potential of being a medical tourism mecca though because visitors from the Middle East, due to stringent visa requirements when going to western nations, go to Turkey instead to get medical treatment.
What is interesting is that it is now obligatory for health insurance companies in Europe to cooperate with Turkey-based hospitals for diabetes cases, HT, chronic kidney failure as well as other procedures concerning other chronic ailments. This means that Turkish hospitals are now being integrated in the European society’s healthcare system even if it is an indirect integration. Turkish hospitals now offer routine and elective healthcare for many Europeans.
