How Safe Is Cosmetic Surgery Abroad?

So you want to get that tummy tuck or get the breast implants you’ve always wanted but you would like to save some money on your surgery and would like to travel too –the solution of course lies in getting cosmetic surgery abroad. However, is cosmetic surgery abroad safe?
According to the Mirror, a great number of Britons are booking flights overseas in search for more affordable and often, faster medical treatment.

The growing popularity of medical tourism is of course not only a practical way for one to save money on regular treatment but also one way for many of us to finally afford surgical procedures that only the rich can afford i.e.  breast implants abroad or weight loss surgery. The question of safety remains though and the safety factor depends on which country you are planning to go to.
In the UK Medical Tourist Survey done in the year 2007, 97% of Britons who underwent surgery abroad saved a lot of money and would pay for surgery in medical tourism hotspots again. According to Dr. Anthony Halperin of The Patients’ Association, there are no records of surgical procedures done overseas that went wrong.

The medical tourist has to note, experts say, that certain medical tourism destinations are only good in certain procedures. Argentine cosmetic surgery for example is one of the cheapest in the world. However, in an interview with a British plastic surgeon, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons or BAAPS are concerned about the lack of aftercare in some cosmetic surgery destinations.

It is of course natural to be afraid of getting private healthcare abroad especially if the hospital one is going to is not accredited by international accreditation authorities.
There are however a number of places that provide safe and quality cosmetic surgery abroad, all you have to do is do your research.
