Treatment Abroad, Consultation And Aftercare

Booking a treatment abroad without consulting with the doctor performing the procedure is a warning sign for medical tourists. One has to understand that for every procedure, a proper consultation must be done to know whether or not you are eligible to go through the said treatment. Through a consultation, your doctor will be able to tell you about potential complications and about the outcome of the procedure.

If you are planning to get breast implants overseas for example, your surgeon will be able to give you an idea about what to expect from the surgery and what to expect in terms of the results of this particular surgery.

Booking a treatment or a surgical procedure abroad without consulting with your doctor is a bad idea because this only shows that your prospective doctor is not following protocol.
Anthony Armstrong, a plastic surgeon from the UK says it is best to have two consultations before any type of surgical procedure is performed. Getting a second opinion is important because it will give you a cooling-off period for you to make up your mind on whether you will push through with the procedure or not.

Aside from getting a consultation with your doctor abroad, you should also ask about your aftercare i.e. whether you’d need someone to accompany you during the operation so that someone will be able to help you afterwards or whether the hospital will provide the aftercare. Further care is usually needed after a major operation so it is important that you ask your doctor about this when you are there for consultation. You should also take into consideration that you might need aftercare when you go back to your country. Further check  ups might be needed afterwards so be sure that you have ample research on how you will go about this once you are back home.
