A favorite destination for tropical beach holidays, the Philippines does not offer the usual Asian experience. The country is an emerging medical tourism hotspot thanks to its high standards for medical treatment and healthcare as initiated by the Philippine government in the year 2006.
There are now a number of medical tour packages available in the country that offer both travel and hospital services i.e. taking care of everything from your visa to your airfare, accommodation and which hospital you will be getting treatment from. It’s not just plastic surgery and dental procedures that are popular in the country though, medical services offered in the Philippines include rheumatology, cataracts surgery, cardiology, bone marrow transplants and even knee replacements.
What makes the Philippines a good choice for medical tourists is that most if not all of the locals speak English making communication a lot easier and more importantly, the country also offers a wealth of highly skilled surgeons and medical practitioners. For those thinking of getting plastic surgery, the country has a wealth of western-trained cosmetic surgeons. Most of these procedures only cost a fraction of the usual price when done in developed countries. With so many surgeons in the Philippines known to be the best in their fields, many people from the west are traveling to the Philippines to have cosmetic procedures done in the said country.
It’s not just cosmetic surgery that the Philippines offers though, dental procedures are also done on medical tourists. According to experts in the field, dental surgery in the country is done at amazingly high standards. There are a number of clinics and hospitals in the Philippines that specialize in dentistry several of which cater to foreigners who go to the Asian destination for dental care.
Much like other Asian countries, the Philippines also offers alternative treatments. These treatments are popular among Filipinos but due to the lack of evidence on whether these treatments work, the Philippine government is yet to promote it as a field of healthcare to medical tourists. Pangasinan faith healers however are visited by a number of tourists from France and Italy.
